The other night, I reluctantly went out to the cinema with my brother. He was planning on making me watch the new Meryl Streep movie, Julie & Julia, which focuses on Julia Child, food and blogging. After seeing the trailer online and almost gagging at the thought of having to sit through a feel good chick flick movie, which I must note that I actually do enjoy from time to time, I still went along to make my brother happy.
By the end of movie I was dancing out of the theatre with only food and blogging on my mind, and I found that my love of writing was being reignited. There was only one problem, and that was that blogging isn’t as easy as it seems. In the movie they show Amy Adams blogging on what looks to be a basic layout for say a LiveJournal or WordPress blog, when the truth is that customising and making your own blog isn’t as easy as it looks. I’ve been telling myself for the past three months that I’m going to customise my own LiveJournal, which I still have yet to do. In the movie they also show Amy Adams actively blogging on a daily basis, which is also not as easy as it sounds. Well at least not that easy to me. After sitting down infront of my laptop for several hours, I still can’t think of something to write about, which made me come to a conclusion. I am not a good blogger.
I can very easily sit down infront of a typewriter or have a pen and journal and write until my heart is content, but the minute I switch on my laptop and see the LiveJournal screen, I blank. I know that I’m one of many people out there who have tried to keep an active journal or blog and have given up after a few months, but what bothers me is the fact that I only have this issue with computers. I’ve kept active journals since I was nine years old and have never had a problem with creative writing for school, but the minute you ask me to write an online article I actually get nervous. I guess that is why I have rant column instead of say, a review column. Then again, I might just have a rant column just so I can vent my strange and varying moods and thoughts on a weekly basis. Whatever it is, I’m quite content knowing that I can write crappy articles for the internet which other people can laugh at.

Trying to travel to a foreign country during the summer holidays has aways been a pain for me. Having to go through the process of buying things that you need for your destination, packing and then making your way through the airport just so you can board the plane can be fun at times, but in my opinion it’s just more stressful going on a holiday than sitting at home on front of the tv with a pack of crisps and then ordering some pizza.
Of course, there are always pro’s and con’s to airtravel. Rationing your carry-on bags has always been difficult for me since I prefer to carry everything that I want in a couple of bags, which means cameras and cosmetics for the most part. What makes it even more frustrating is when you are asked to place all your liquids, gels and creams in a clear sandwich bag that is so small that not even a few fish could fit in there. I understand that they require you to do this for your own safety, but I’ve found that it’s only when you are traveling to the USA that they make giant fuss over the smallest things.
I’ve travelled to countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, Egypt, Oman and the UK and never have I come across such a heightened sense of awareness that I find in airports situated i nteh United States. Just a few days ago I was in San Francisco as I had a connecting flight to Honolulu which meant an 11-hour lay over, and as I walked through the airport after checking in my bags, there was an announcement stating that the aiport was on an alert safety code orange and that was that. What my brother and myself just couldn’t understand was why they were on such high alert. There hasn’t been any suspicious activity in the city that I know of and the way that security was running throughout the entire airport was sound and smooth and incredibly thorough. I eventually came to the conclusion that maybe it was because the airport authorities want to keep anyone travelling on their toes and feeling paranoid so that maybe a potential threat could be spotted.
Hrm….I guess that is all I can come up with for this week.
