It's always rainy in London. Anyhoo, it's 31 degrees here, partly cloudy.

I am really happy that this term is being put in the larger lexicon of the world since it will help spread knowledge of the condition and hopefully expose what few cases exist outside of Japan and Korea instead of treating it as something different.

They'll still just medicate you for it anyway.

Oh, okay. I think I get it. owo Thanks for the explanation. Now let's see the dictionary define it successfully in fewer words. :P

Hmm... How can I explain the difference...

You know how nerds are different from geeks are different from otaku are different Trekkies? Uh... Let's just say that my acute shyness is best fitted with the concept of hikikomori than with other similar terms.

In western countries, there is a lot of attention given to individualism and individual behavior, whereas in Japan and Korea, there is more focus on communal and socialtal behavior. While loss of individuality is what is usually assumed, the feelings for complete socialtal withdrawal compound with depression, shyness, and/or other factors such as hostile social environment (school, work, etc). Since those afflicted with this condition did not NEET-ly (PUN!) fit in an established psychological condition, hikikomori was coined to help fit this uniquely Japanese and Korean affliction.

I am really happy that this term is being put in the larger lexicon of the world since it will help spread knowledge of the condition and hopefully expose what few cases exist outside of Japan and Korea instead of treating it as something different.
